Huge fire closes UK’s Heathrow Airport, hundreds of flights disrupted
Britain`s Heathrow Airport said it would be closed all of Friday (21 March) after a huge fire at a nearby electrical substation wiped out power, disrupting flight schedules around the world. The London Fire Brigade said around 70 firefighters were tackling the blaze in the west of London, which caused a mass power outage at Heathrow, Europe`s busiest and the world`s fifth-busiest airport. Huge orange flames and plumes of smoke could be seen shooting into the sky. Around 150 people were evacuated from nearby buildings and thousands of properties were without power.

DU students again demonstrate demanding AL ban
A group of Dhaka University students again staged demonstrations demanding a ban on the fallen Awami League (AL) on the campus past midnight Thursday. The protest began from the Hallpara area of the university at 2am and ended in front of Raju Bhaskarjya (sculpture) later. The students staged the demonstrations protesting Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus’s remark that the government has no plan to ban AL.

2 killed in Narsingdi AL, BNP clash
Two people were killed and several others injured in a clash between Awami League (AL) and BNP men in Narsingdi`s Raipura in the early hours of Friday, March 21. The dead were Amin, 23, son of Khorshed Mia, and Bashar, son of Barek Haji, residents of Mohinipur village in the upazila. They were supporters of local AL leader Salam.

Midnight bombshell from Hasnat sparks renewed calls to ban Awami League
In a bombshell Facebook post late on Thursday night that instantly went viral, Hasnat Abdullah, one of the key leaders of the uprising that overthrew Sheikh Hasina and now the chief organiser (South) of the newly-formed National Citizens Party (NCP), alleged that under the stewardship of India, a plot is being hatched to rehabilitate the Awami League. In the post, Hasnat divulged details of a key meeting held at the Cantonment on March 11, between himself and two others from NCP with presumably military leadership, where a proposal was put forward to them to bring back the AL to mainstream politics. No plans to ban AL, ICC referral option open: Yunus
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said the interim government has no plans to ban Awami League, but individuals within its leadership accused of crimes, including murder and crimes against humanity, will be tried in Bangladesh`s courts. He also said the government has not ruled out referring Awami League leaders to the International Criminal Court in The Hague following a UN fact-finding mission that reported potential crimes during the July uprising. "It is very much on the table," Professor Yunus said.

Remittance inflow shoots up by 79% to $2.25b in first 19 days of March
Bangladesh`s remittance inflow witnessed a remarkable year-on-year growth of a whopping 78.57% to $2.25 billion in the first 19 days of the ongoing March. Last year, the country logged a total of $1.26 billion during the same period, Bangladesh Bank Spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan informed reporters today (20 March).
