A law will be framed soon to facilitate the process of bringing back stolen money, Chief Adviser`s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today (10 March). Briefing reporters at the Foreign Service Academy after Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus` meeting with an 11-member taskforce formed earlier in September last year, he said Yunus had called for expediting efforts to bring back billions of stolen money - both from the banking system and other means.

Amending the constitution through an ordinance is possible, said National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, regarding the implementation of key reform proposals. Speaking at a press conference at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building today (10 March), he stated, "Amending the constitution through an ordinance is possible. The constitution has been amended through an ordinance in Bangladesh before. Which was later approved by the elected parliament."

A female garment worker was killed in a road accident in Dhaka’s Banani area on Monday morning, triggering protests and severe traffic congestion on surrounding roads, including Airport Road and the Elevated Expressway. Garment worker Minara, 19, was killed while she was crossing the road near Banani Chairman Bari around 6 am, said Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Russell Sarwar.

4 remanded in Magura child rape case
A Magura court has granted remand for four accused individuals in the widely-discussed child rape case. Magura Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdul Matin issued the order at midnight on Sunday. The main accused, the child`s sister`s father-in-law, was granted a seven-day remand, while the sister`s husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law were each granted a five-day remand.

Home Adviser orders law enforcers to adopt tougher stance to prevent crimes
Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday instructed the law enforcement agencies to adopt a stricter stance against crimes and disturbing activities. "Strict legal action will be taken against criminals and justice will be ensured through due process. No one will be spared,” he said while talking to reporters after an early morning visit to four police stations in Dhaka Tejgaon, Dhanmondi, Shahbagh, and New Market police stations.

Law enforcement agencies have to complete investigation of rape cases within 15 days and trial in 90 days, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said today (9 March). Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat this afternoon, he said the government will bring some amendments into relevant laws to expedite the trial process of rape cases.

No room for rapists in country: Home Adviser
Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today (9 March) said that there is no room for the rapists in the country. "Those who will get involved in any violence against women or raping incident anywhere in the country, would be brought to book and ensured highest punishment," he told a media briefing on law and order at the law ministry conference room here this afternoon.
