1 dead in attack on Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar
Bangladesh Air Force Base in Cox`s Bazar came under sudden attack by some miscreants from the adjacent Samiti Para area today (24 February), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)."In response, the Bangladesh Air Force is taking necessary measures to address the situation," reads a press release signed by Ayesha Siddiqua, assistant director of ISPR.

15 resorts, cottages gutted in Sajek fire
At least fifteen resorts and cottages were gutted in a massive fire which broke out at Sajek, a popular tourist spot in Rangamati`s Baghaichhari upazila, on Monday. The fire broke out in a resort named `Obokash Resort` around 1 pm and spread to the adjoining resorts and cottages. Witnesses said the fire engulfed the Echo Valley Resort, Meghchut Resort, Montana Restaurant, Maruati Restaurant and others.

Local govt elections unlikely before June: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on Monday hinted that holding local government elections before next June is unlikely, as the voter list updating programme is still ongoing. "Our target is the national election in December. If it is to be held in December, we must announce the election schedule in October," he said.

JU students block Dhaka-Aricha highway demanding Home Adviser’s resignation
Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) put up barricade on Dhaka-Aricha highway on Monday demanding resignation of the Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury for his `failure` to bring the law and order situation under control across the country.The students of the university brought out a procession from Shaheed Minar Premises on the campus at noon and took to the street, disrupting vehicular movement.

Army to maintain law & order until elected govt takes over: Army Chief
Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman on Monday said the army must continue working to maintain law and order until Bangladesh gets an elected government. "We initially thought the task would be completed quickly, allowing us to return to the cantonment. However, now we have been working for a long period. We must exercise patience and fulfill our professional responsibilities with dedication," he said at the prize distribution ceremony of a firing competition at Savar Cantonment.

Govt reschedules office timing for Ramadan
The government has rearranged the office timing for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan from 9 am to 3:30 pm for all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous organisations. The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Monday. There will be a 15-minute break from 1:15pm to 1:30pm for Zuhr prayers, said the notice.
