Protesting teacher candidates hold rally at Shahbagh
Candidates protesting the cancellation of their appointments as assistant teachers in government primary schools are staging a rally at Dhaka`s Shahbagh, demanding reinstatement of their recruitment order.The rally in front of the National Museum started at around 9:30am today (16 February), however, they did not block the road or the Shahbagh intersection. Now in its 11th consecutive day, the protest continues as demonstrators call on the government to intervene and overturn the High Court order that nullified their recruitment.

The drivers of CNG-run autorickshaws have suspended their demonstrations and lifted the blockades on Dhaka streets after the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) withdrew its decision to reinforce meter usage and fines or jail terms for autorickshaw drivers who charge more than the fare shown on the meter.

Police did not suspend theatre festival, internal conflict led to cancellation: Farooki
The police did not order the suspension of the Dhaka Metropolitan Theatre Festival, contrary to initial reports, said filmmaker and cultural adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki. Instead, he revealed in a Facebook post today (16 February) that internal conflicts within the theatre community led to the cancellation of the event at Mahila Samiti in the capital.

Rail communication with Sylhet resumes after 9 hours
Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country has resumed after nine hours. The communication was snapped due to the derailment of an oil-laden train at Dakshin Surma area in Sylhet around 10:30pm yesterday (15 February). After a rescue operation, rail communication restarted after 8:30am today (16 February).
