CNG drivers block parts of Mirpur Road protesting govt decision to enforce metre usage
CNG-run autorickshaw drivers have blocked a number of locations on the Mirpur Road in protest against the government`s decision to reinforce metre usage. They brought out protests in front of Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, Ganobhaban and College Gate around 10am today (13 February). CNG drivers are demanding scrapping the new decision of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to enforce the fare shown on the metre blocked the road in front of Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, said Tania Sultana, additional deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Traffic Division.

BNP files complaint with ICT over reported killing of 848 leaders
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has filed a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal over the alleged killing of 848 leaders and activists of the party and its affiliated organisations in the student-led July-August mass uprising. On behalf of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Md Salauddin Khan PPM, who is responsible for coordinating the party`s records on enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, submitted the complaint at the office of the chief prosecutor of the tribunal this morning (13 February).

Jamaat leaders in a meeting with EC
A delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islam, led by its secretary general Prof Mia Golam Parwar, is in a meeting with the Election Commission at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and other election commissioners are present at the meeting. Jamaat delegation members include AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, SM Kamal Uddin and Yousuf Ali.

Students Against Discrimination demand ban on Awami League following Gazipur attack victim’s death
Jatiya Nagorik Committee and members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have demanded a ban on the Awami League following the death of 20-year-old Abul Kashem, who sustained severe injuries during an attack in Gazipur. During a rally held at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, after the Namaz-e-Janaza of Abul Kashem at 9 pm, protesters demanded banning Awami League.

145 undocumented Bangladeshis return from Libya
A group of 145 undocumented Bangladeshi nationals, who wanted to voluntarily return home from Libya, arrived in Dhaka early Thursday. They arrived by a chartered flight of Buraq Air (UZ0222) at 5:30 am following a joint effort by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, Libya and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

EC seeks Tk2,800cr for next national election
The Election Commission (EC) has sought Tk2,794.55 crore allocation for conducting the next national election. A total of Tk5,922 crore was sought by the commission for conducting the upcoming national and the local government elections. Confirming the matter today (12 February), EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz said the commission has sent a proposal to the government seeking the allocation in the 2025-26 fiscal year.
