The High Court has issued a rule asking why Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote and a former leader of Iskcon, should not be granted bail in a sedition case filed against him for allegedly disrespecting the national flag. The bench of Justice Md Ataur Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza issued the rule today (4 February).

Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, former Chairman of the Privatisation Commission has passed away at the age of 87. Chowdhury breathed his last after suffering from a heart attack at his residence in Dhaka`s Banani on Monday. Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, said his son Nadim Ahmed Chowdhury.

The government has suspended National Board of Revenue`s Commissioner AKM Mahbubur Rahman temporarily on charge of misconduct. A notification, signed by Md Abdur Rahman Khan, secretary to the Ministry of Finance, was issued in this regard on Monday. Mahbubur was suspended following section 12 of the Employee Discipline and Appeal Rules-2018, reads it.

Protesting students of Government Titumir College blocked the Mohakhali Rail Crossing from 3:40pm today (3 February) to push home their demands, which include recognition of the institution as a university. Confirming the blockade, Kamalapur Railway Station Master Shahadat Hossain said as of 4:30pm, at least six trains have been delayed due to the blockade.

Thirteen more new dengue cases were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, bringing the total number of cases to 1,200 this year. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), five of the new cases were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation, while five were hospitalised in Dhaka Division (outside the city corporation).
