World Bank to provide additional $30 million for power transmission project
The Government of Bangladesh and the World Bank signed an agreement for additional financing of SDR 22.9 million (equivalent to $30 million) for the Enhancement and Strengthening of Power Transmission Network in Eastern Region Project today (23 January), according to a press release. The Power Grid Bangladesh PLC is executing the project, which aims to ensure reliable power supply to the growing electricity demand in the Cumilla, Chattagram, and Noakhali regions.

SC hearing on review against judgment on Warrant of Precedence 13 Feb
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today set February 13 for holding a hearing on a petition seeking a review of the apex court judgment on Warrant of Precedence. A three-member Appellate Division bench headed by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam passed the order as the matter came on top of today`s cause list. Barrister Nihad Kabir was present for the plea, while senior lawyer Ahsanul Karim and Barrister M Abdul Qaium were present for the deputy and assistant attorney generals, who became party in the case.

Severe cold grips Kurigram, low-income people hit hard
Sever cold disrupted daily life in Kurigram in the 2nd week of Bangla month `Magh`. Subal Chandra Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Kurigram Agriculture Weather Observatory, said they recorded temperature at 12.6 degree Celsius at 9am on Thursday. He also said the temperature may drop further in the next two to three days. The low-income people, especially those living at chars on the banks of rivers, children and senior citizens are the worst sufferers of the cold.

BGB-BSF sector commander-level meeting in C’nawabganj discusses key issues
A sector commander-level meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India`s Border Security Force (BSF) was held on Wednesday morning at Sonamasjid border outpost conference room in Chapainawabganj. The 59 BGB Battalion issued a press release after the meeting. According to the press release, the meeting discussed various issues in a friendly environment and the both sides agreed on restricting access of all except farmers within 150 yards of the border.
