A bailey bridge built over the Turag River in Tongi on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway collapsed today (21 December) causing a stone-laden truck to fall into the river. The truck driver and his assistant were slightly injured. Deputy Police Commissioner (Traffic) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Md Ibrahim Khan confirmed the incident and said efforts are underway to recover the fallen truck.

A fire broke out at a slum in Banani area of the capital early Saturday. According to Fire Service officials, the fire broke out at Block K, Road No. 22, at Banani, engulfing the slum. The fire service officials received the information at 5:30 am, with the first firefighting unit arriving on the scene at 5:41 am. Firefighting teams from Baridhara, Tejgaon and Kurmitola fire stations, comprising a total of seven units, worked tirelessly to contain the blaze.

Adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Land AF Hassan Ariff passed away at a hospital in the capital on Friday (20 December). He was 85. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, his personal secretary, told UNB that Ariff collapsed while having lunch at home earlier today. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors confirmed he had suffered a cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at 3:10 pm
