3 students dead in Demra clashes; death toll feared to rise

Three students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College (DMRC) at Jatrabari died following clashes between the institute`s students against those of Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College. The deaths were confirmed by Ashraf Sami, managing director of the Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College. "More than 100 students and teachers have been injured," he added.

Meeting with rickshaw drivers: New DMP assures that there will be no extortion

Newly-appointed DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali today assured that autorickshaw-van drivers will not face any incidents of extortion. Speaking at a meeting with auto-rickshaw, auto-van and easybike drivers at the DMP Headquarters, he said, "No one will be able to take away the hard-earned money of the poor. We won`t spare any police official if his involvement is found with extortion."

Clashes erupt among Demra students over Sunday’s vandalism

Students from Kabi Nazrul College and Suhrawardy Colleges have vandalised Dr Mahbubur Rahman Molla College in Demra over Monday’s clashes among students from 35 colleges near National Medical College Hospital centering a student’s death in ‘wrong treatment’ at the hospital. Students started gathering near Dr Mahbubur Rahman Molla College in the morning and carried out vandalism around 12 noon.

‘No more one-sided forced elections; polls date after reforms’

Stating that the previous government has left the country in a dire state with one-sided polls, newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said he does not want any more such forced elections. "The date of the election will be fixed after necessary electoral reforms," he also said at a views exchange meeting between journalists and newly-appointed election commissioners at the Election Commission headquarters today.
