Govt expects WB’s budget support this year: Salehuddin

Bangladesh is anticipating budget support from the World Bank before the year ends, according to Finance and Commerce Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed. ‘Germany to provide €1 billion support over 10 years for renewable energy’

Adviser to the ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said that Germany will provide Bangladesh with 1 billion Euro over the next ten years, including 15 million Euro this year, focusing on renewable energy generation. Both countries will promote knowledge exchange and cooperation with non-state actors like the private sector, research institutes, academia, and civil society.

RMG workers in Gazipur block Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway

Workers of a garment factory in Gazipur’s Tongi blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Tuesday morning with a procession demanding due wages. This caused severe traffic jam on both sides of the highway, bringing commute to a standstill. The workers were demanding three months of due wages from the Khapara Season Dress Limited garment factory in Tongi. The procession began from in front of the factory and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Ershadnagar area.

‘Bangladeshis to decide new election; duration of interim govt’

US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard R. Verma has said it is for the people of Bangladesh to decide when a new election will be held and how long the interim government will stay. “That is for the people of Bangladesh to decide how and when they are going to hold a new election and how long the transitional (interim) government will be in place,” he said while responding to a question at an event at Hudson Institute in Washington D.C. on Monday.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected over country

Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected across much of the country, according to BMD’s latest weather bulletin on Tuesday. Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions should expect light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with the possibility of heavy falls in Rajshahi, Khulna, and Chattogram.

Former OC of Jatrabari Police Station arrested in Teknaf

Former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhaka`s Jatrabari Police Station, Md. Abul Hasan Chowdhury, has been arrested at the Teknaf border. Teknaf police apprehended him on Monday (September 16). Cox`s Bazar Additional Superintendent of Police, Md. Jasim Uddin Chowdhury, confirmed that Abul Hasan, who previously served as the OC of Jatrabari during a student movement, is currently a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) inspector.
