35 districts get new DCs

The government has appointed new deputy commissioners ( DCs) to 35 districts. The appointments were made in separate notifications issued by the Ministry of Public Administration. Dr Monowar Hossain Molla, deputy secretary of the Finance Division, has been appointed as DC of Manikganj; Md Sabet Ali, deputy secretary of Cabinet Division has been assigned to Tangail; Mohammad Monir Hossain Haowlader, deputy secretary of the Commerce Ministry, to Sirajganj; Mostaq Ahmed, deputy secretary of Cabinet Division to Satkhira, Ashrafur Rahman, deputy secretary of the Commerce Ministry

2 garment workers die as truck runs them over in Gazipur

Two garment workers died, and three others were injured after being run over by a truck in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur on Tuesday (10 ‍September). The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital. Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Naozor Highway Police Station, confirmed the matter. According to locals, during the lunch break, workers from Sterling Designs factory in the Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakoir were crossing the highway on foot. 3 construction workers die after falling from building in Khulna

Three construction workers died after falling from the scaffold of an under-construction building in front of Khulna Government Women College at Boyra in Khulna city on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Rabbi, 27, Ashraful, 30 and Mamun, 25. Sumon Mandal, sub-inspector of Sonadanga Model Police Station, said eight workers including the victims were working on the 4th floor of the ten-story under-construction building of the Tax Commissioner Office with a bamboo made scaffold outside the building, said officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Police Station.

2 killed in clash between two groups of villagers in Sherpur

Two people were killed and 20 others injured in a clash between two groups of local people of two Mohollas at Khoarpar intersection in Sherpur district town on Monday night. The deceased were identified as Mizan Mia, 35, a trolley worker and son of Azhar Ali and Srabon Mia, 32, son of Mintu Mia. Both of them were residents of Gauripur Moholla.

One dies, 615 hospitlaised for dengue in 24hrs

One more death was reported from dengue in 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 97 this year. During the period, 615 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Among them, 175 dengue patients were admitted in hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation while 137 were hospitalized in Dhaka South City Corporation. Some 1,642 patients are receiving treatment in different hospitals across the country

New MD of metro rail: Abdur Rouf, Siddique’s contract terminated

Mohammad Abdur Rouf, the additional project director (Additional Secretary) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of the company, which operates the metro rail. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has terminated the contractual appointment of the former MD, MAN Siddique. On Monday, September 9, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a notification canceling MAN Siddique’s contractual appointment. Following this, another office order was issued appointing Mohammad Abdur Rouf as the acting MD.
