Clash between police-protesters: 1 student killed in Rangpur

A student of Rangpur`s Begum Rokeya University was killed during a clash between police and protesters seeking quota reform on the campus. The deceased was identified as Abu Sayeed, 25, a student of English Department of the university and one of the organisers of the quota reform movement. Md Moniruzzaman, Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, told the media that, "A student was killed but we are yet to know how he was killed." Eunus Ali, director of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said a student was brought dead to the hospital.

Brac, NSU students block roads in Dhaka

Quota reform protesters blocked various roads in Dhaka, including Pragati Sarani and the Beribadh road on Tuesday (16 July) morning. A group of protesters from Brac University, seen chanting slogans against the quota system in government jobs, staged a sit-in and blocked traffic towards Notun Bazar around 10:45am. Heavy rains kill at least 35 in eastern Afghanistan

At least 35 people were killed and 230 injured on Monday after heavy rain in eastern Afghanistan, a local official said. "On Monday evening, stormy rains killed 35 people and injured 230 others in Jalalabad and certain districts of Nangarhar" province, Quraishi Badloon, head of the department of information and culture, told AFP. The casualties were caused by heavy storms and rains that collapsed trees, walls and roofs of people`s houses, Badloon said.

1200mmcfd shortfall in country’s gas supply

Despite repair of LNG terminal, owned and operated by Summit Group, gas supply situation did not witness an expected improvement. Petrobangla official statistics show that it was supplying 2604 million cubic meter of gas per day (MMCFD) on Monday (15 June) against a demand for over 3800 MMCFD leaving a shortfall of 1200 MMCFD. Of the total supply, about 2000 MMCFD gas was supplied from local gas fields while 600 MMCFD gas came from imported LNG through one LNG terminal.
