JU students continue Bangla Blockade on Dhaka-Aricha highway
Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) staged their "Bangla-Blockade" programme on Tuesday (9 June) by blocking the Dhaka-Aricha highway, pressing their one-point demand to reform the quota system for government jobs. The protesting students started gathering in front of the university`s central library at 2:30pm, then blocked the highway at 3:40pm. They, however, cleared the streets at around 4:20pm as heavy traffic built up on both sides of the highway.

PM to visit Spain, Brazil this month
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to pay official visits to Spain and Brazil from 21 July to further strengthen ties with these two countries engaging in broader areas of cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking preparations for these two separate bilateral visits, officials said. Prime Minister Hasina’s official visit to Madrid, Spain is tentatively planned for from 21-23 July. After completion of her visit to Spain, she is likely to pay an official visit to Brazil on 24-26 July with a likely stopover in London, he said, adding that these are tentative schedules.

Every year, marginalised communities living in these regions have to face multiple disasters, including cyclones, storm surges, flash floods, monsoon floods, and droughts. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) on Tuesday (9 July) unveiled a nine-member refugee team for the upcoming Games in Paris. The team is made up of eight competitors and one guide runner. Assistant Commissioner Lands (AC Land) announces a strict stand against a poultry farm, Sinha Poultry Farm, which has been set up in a densely populated residential area for 27 years, disregarding the rules and regulations. On Monday (8 July) afternoon in Pabna Ishwardi, following the complaints of the local victims of Hajipara area of Joynagar, Upazila Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Shahadat Hossain Khan issued a strict warning against the poultry farm. He told journalists, he came here and observed the situation, there is no chance of causing inconvenience to the people by setting up this type of poultry farm in the residential area. Poultry owner Arj Ali has been warned to put up a high wall around the area as soon as possible to stop the stench or to relocate the farm. A serious accident was narrowly avoided earlier today when a bus overturned in South Surma upazila of Sylhet district, with all 25 passengers escaping without major injuries. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (8 June) reached Beijing to start a four-day official visit to China at the invitation of her Chinese counterpart Li Qiang. A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, that left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:05am, carrying the PM and her entourage landed at Beijing Capital International Airport at 6pm local time (4:00pm BST).
