Former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed`s luxurious bungalow in Narayanganj`s Rupganj upazila is set to be confiscated on Saturday (6 July). Quota protest: Students block Dhaka -Tangail highway for 2 hrs
Students of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway for around two hours on Saturday demanding cancellation of quota system in government jobs. The students put up barricade on the highway at 10 am on Saturday in the Nagarjalfai Bypass area and removed it around 12 pm after police intervention.

FAO declares world food prices to be stable in June
Global food prices remained stable in June, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported on Friday (5 July). An Indian preacher whose latest sermon ended in a deadly stampede said Saturday (6 July) morning he was "deeply distressed" in his first public response to the disaster. Bhole Baba`s prayer meeting near the northern city of Hathras on Tuesday saw the deaths of 121 people, the vast majority women, after a rush to the exits among the 250,000 devotees who came to watch him preach. As part of the anti-drugs drives in the capital, members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested a total of 21 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs during the last 24 hours till 6am on Friday (5 July). Jamalpur sees flood deterioration
The overall flood situation slightly deteriorated in the district affecting over 50,000 people in three upazilas. According to Water Development Board, in the last 24 hours the Jamuna rose by 31cm and was flowing 93 cm above the danger level at Bahadurabad ghat point till Friday (5 July) morning. With the rising of the water, eight unions in Islampur, eight unions in Dewanganj and two unions in Madarganj upazila were inundated. District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Alamgir Hossain said 5 tonnes of rice was distributed among the flood-hit people in Dewanganj while 20 tonnes in Islampur and 10 tonnes in Madarganj upazila. At least Seven killed Israeli raid in west Bank
Israeli troops killed seven Palestinians with Hamas claiming five as members in a raid on Jenin in the occupied West Bank on Friday (05 July), officials said. At least 14 Palestinians have now been killed in Israeli operations this week in the West Bank, where the Gaza war has fuelled tensions in October. The Israeli military said the raid was carried out to find militants behind an attack last week in which an Israeli captain was killed. Hamas said one of the latest seven dead was a "commander" in the group.

India records highest-ever defence production
India on Friday (5 June) said it has achieved the highest-ever growth in indigenous defence production in value terms during FY2023-24 on the back of the successful implementation of the policies and initiatives of the government. As per the data received from all Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), other PSUs manufacturing defence items and private companies, the value of defence production in the country has gone up to a record-high figure of Rs1,26,887 crore, reflecting a growth of 16.7% over the defence production of the previous financial year when it was Rs1,08,684 crore.

89 migrants dead after boat capsizes off Mauritania
The extreme Atlantic Ocean route is gaining popularity because of increased vigilance by authorities in the Mediterranean.
