Former State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam on Wednesday (3 June) said Bangladesh needs China for its rapid industrialization and noted the significant role that China has played over the last 15 years. “Industrialised Bangladesh needs China,” he said, noting that Bangladesh-China relations have been deepened over the last decade. Delivering his opening remarks at a roundtable discussion, Shahriar recalled the historical facts during the Liberation War but recognised China’s contributions over the last one and a half decade.

Road crashes kill 30 in Sylhet in June alone

Thirty people were killed and 45 others injured in 27 road crashes in Sylhet division in the month of June alone, according to a report published by Sylhet divisional committee of Nirapad Sarak Chai (Nischa). Among all the deceased, 21 were men, six women and three children. According to the report, most of the road accidents occurred in Sylhet and Habiganj districts.

Landslide due to heavy rains: 2 die in Rohingya camp

Two people including a Bangladeshi teenage boy were killed in a landslide at Rohingya camp in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar district on Wednesday (3 July). Stampede at religious event in India kills at least 116

Thousands of people at a religious gathering in India rushed to leave a makeshift tent, setting off a stampede Tuesday that killed at least 116 people and injured scores, officials said. Two killed in Faridpur road accident

Two motorcyclists were killed in an accident on a rain-soaked road in Boalmari, Faridpur at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed. According to locals, a passenger bus traveling from Alfadanga to Faridpur collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Locals reported that the motorcycle was speeding recklessly. In the collision, the motorcyclist was crushed under the bus`s wheels, and the other rider fell onto the road, sustaining a fatal head injury and dying on the spot. Following the accident, the bus driver and staff abandoned the vehicle and fled away.

Third round of flood batters life in Sylhet
