Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday (26 June) said no corrupt person will be spared as the government has accounted ‘zero tolerance’ against corruption. “I believe the ACC (Anti-Corruption Commission) is here. The Prime Minister is firm on her zero-tolerance policy against corruption. The ACC is completely free,” he said while inaugurating the shuttle bus service of BRTC at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here.

Fire on oil-carrying trawler: 3 missing in Buriganga river
Three workers went missing and another was injured when an oil-laden trawler caught fire after explosions on the Buriganga River near Fatullah Bazar in Narayanganj district on Wednesday (26 June). Fakhruddin Ahmed, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service, reported that the fire broke out around 1:30 pm near the Meghna Depot Jetty. All the oil-laden drums on the trawler exploded with a big bang, causing panic among local residents, he said.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has categorically said that Bangladesh would be forced to fire back if Myanmar further shoots any firing targeting Bangladesh ships on the St. Martin route. An unidentified armed group from Myanmar fired at an island-bound speed boat along the Naf River on June 11. Furthermore, warships belonging to Myanmar were also visible on the St. Martin route. A 62-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a motorcycle in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday (25 June) night. The deceased, identified as Ataur Rahman, was the father of newly elected upazila vice-chairman Mehedi Hasan. Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has not been able to pay the dues of private power plant owners for two years. Already, over Tk 50,000 crore is due. 2.6 million die annually due to alcohol: WHO
Alcohol kills nearly three million people annually, the World Health Organization said on Tuesday (25 June), adding that while the death rate had dropped slightly in recent years it remained "unacceptably high". The United Nations health agency`s latest report on alcohol and health said alcohol causes nearly one in 20 deaths globally each year, through drink driving, alcohol-induced violence and abuse, and a multitude of diseases and disorders.

T-Aman production target fixed at 3.53 lakh tonnes in Jamalpur
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed a target of T- Aman (Transplanted Aman) cultivation on 1,12,896 hectares of land with a production target of 3,53,108 tones of rice in the district during the current Kharip-2 season. The DAE office sources said the production target is 3177 tonnes more than the previous year.
