A woman, who suffered 55 percent burns in a fire at her residence on June 10, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early on Sunday (16 June), raising the death toll to 4. The deceased was identified as Roxy Akter, 20, wife of Sirajul Mostafa, a Bangladeshi working in Dubai, and daughter of Abdul Mannan of Cox’s Bazar district.

The Israeli military on Sunday (16 June) announced a “tactical pause” in its offensive in the southern Gaza Strip to allow the deliveries of increased quantities of humanitarian aid. The army said the pause would begin in the Rafah area at 8 a.m. (0500 GMT, 1 a.m. eastern) and remain in effect until 7 p.m. (1600 GMT, noon eastern). It said the pauses would take place every day until further notice.

The ritual at Mount Arafat, known as the hill of mercy, is considered the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage. It is often the most memorable for pilgrims, who stand together asking God for mercy, blessings, prosperity and good health. The hill is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) southeast of Mecca.

More than 500 Palestinians have died in the West Bank since October 7, 2023, including over 120 children, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. Five people were killed and eight others injured in a road accident in Pakistan`s southern Sindh province on Saturday (15 June), police said. The accident occurred on the Indus Highway in Dadu district of the province, where a speeding truck hit a rickshaw, resulting in the loss of five lives, including children, according to local police.

The G7 countries may lose $83 billion if they confiscate frozen Russian assets, which is the amount of their investments in the Russian economy, according to calculations based on data from the countries` national statistical services. On Friday (14 June), the G7 countries at the summit in Italy agreed on a loan structure to provide at least $50 billion to Ukraine, which will be funded by revenue generated by the interest on Russia`s frozen assets.

At least 12 persons died and a dozen others were injured when the bus they aboard fell into a deep gorge in India`s northern hilly state of Uttarakhand on Saturday (15 June), a local police officer told over the phone. The officer said that a couple of passengers went missing and it was feared that they might have been drowned in the Alaknanda river which flows just next to the spot of the accident.
