Probe report over lawmaker Anwarul murder case on July 4

A court here on Thursday (23 may) set July 4 for submitting probe report in a case lodged over the murder of Awami League lawmaker of Jenaidah-4 Anwarul Azim Anar. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order, accepting first information report (FIR) in the case. Victim’s daughter Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin filed the case on May 22 with capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

The alleged mastermind in the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, Aktaruzzaman Shahin, had been plotting for three months to kill MP Anwarul Azim Anar, said Harun-or-Rashid, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Chief. He along with his accomplices had initially planned to kill MP Azim in his Gulshan or Bashundhara residences but later they chose Kolkata to kill MP Anar and fulfill their plan.

Appellate Division upholds HC order validating candidacy of Shahadat

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday (23 May) upheld the High Court order for accepting the nomination paper of Shahadat Hossain, younger brother of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, in the upcoming Companiganj Upazila Parishad Election. A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Senior Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order.

"I cannot say anything before the investigation is completed. There is no room for criminals in Awami League," he said while speaking at a meeting with the newly formed Youth and Sports Sub-committee members at the Dhaka district Awami League office in city`s Tejgaon.
