Gunfire rings out in Congo’s capital
Gunfire rang out in Congo’s capital early Sunday (19 May) morning as armed men in military uniform clashed with a top politician’s guards in a neighborhood near the presidential palace, resulting in the death of three people, according to the politician’s spokesman and local media. Pakistan repatriates 140 students from Bishkek
Pakistan asked its nationals in Kyrgyzstan to stay indoors after mobs attacked foreigners in the capital Friday night over some unknown dispute with migrants, the Foreign Ministry said Saturday. It also repatriated 140 Pakistani students from Bishkek after the violence. A special flight bringing the Pakistani students home from Kyrgyzstan landed at an airport on Saturday in Pakistan`s eastern city of Lahore, the Interior Ministry said. Two people, including a girl, drowned in the river Mohananda of Chapainawabganj sadar and Bholahat upazilas this afternoon. Two cousins were killed and four others injured by lightning strike at Noabari village in Birbashinda union under Kalihati upazila of the district on Saturday (18 May). Rajshahi police start ’no helmet, no petrol’ programme
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) have started `No Helmet, No Fuel` programme for substantial and sustainable reduction of casualties and fatalities through prevention of road traffic accidents. As part of the programme, the RMP has shown festoons of `no helmet, no fuel` in 23 petrol pumps and given instructions of selling no fuel without helmet. For successful enforcement of the programme, RMP Traffic Division has been imposing penalties against the law-violators through setting up check posts adjacent to the respective petrol pumps.

Farmers facing losses despite high paddy yields
Despite a bumper yield of Boro paddy across the country, farmers are not smiling as they are not receiving fair prices. Currently, paddy is selling at Tk 850-930 per maund in the market, while the production cost per maund is about Tk 1250. Consequently, farmers are incurring a loss of Tk 350-400 per maund. Twenty-three people trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe from Tunisia have been missing for the past two weeks, the country`s National Guard said in a statement on Saturday. 3 Spaniards were among 6 people killed in Afghanistan
Three Spanish citizens and three Afghans were killed when gunmen opened fire in central Afghanistan, Taliban and Spanish officials said Saturday (18 May). Officials had earlier said that four people died. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the Friday evening attack. Seven suspects were arrested at the scene in Bamiyan province, a major tourist area, and an investigation is underway, said Abdul Mateen Qani, a spokesman for the interior minister, on Saturday. More than 300 pallets of humanitarian aid were delivered to the Gaza Strip for the first time using a temporary floating pier on Friday (17 May), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
