Milton Samaddar placed on 4-day remand
A court here on Sunday (5 May) placed Child and Old Age Care founder Milton Samadder on four-day remand in a human trafficking case filed with the capital`s Mirpur Model Police Station. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Shanta Akter passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case and place him on seven-day remand. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain on May 2 had placed Milton on three-day remand in a case lodged for allegedly making fake death certificates to bury people who died in his centre.

AL secretariat meeting tomorrow
A meeting of the Awami League (AL) secretariat will be held at the party`s President Sheikh Hasina’s political office of Dhanmondi at 4pm tomorrow (5 May). Residents of Faridpur staged a protest today at the railway station, demanding a stoppage for the Chandana commuter train that travels from Rajbari to Dhaka. The protest began at 5:15 am. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open the Bhanga-Khulna-Jeshore-Benapole train-line by next two months. Railways Minister Md Zillur Hakim on Saturday (4 May) said this while inaugurating two commuter trains on this route to make Dhaka`s communication system easier with Rajbari. Two students of class-nine drowned while bathing in a lake in Diabari area of Dhaka’s Uttara on Saturday (4 May) afternoon, said Fire Service officials. The deceased identified as Asharfaul, 16 and Jihad, 15, were students of Mirpur Shahid Smrity High School at Mirpur-11 of the capital. Two of them went missing in the lake while bathing, he said.
