UK sends ship to support aid corridor to Gaza strip
The United Kingdom has sent a Royal Navy ship to the Eastern Mediterranean to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip, UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said. "A Royal Navy ship is now en-route to the Eastern Mediterranean to support international efforts to get life-saving aid to Gaza," Shapps said in a statement published by the UK government on Saturday (6 April). The ship deployment is expected to facilitate the establishment of an international humanitarian maritime corridor from Cyprus to the Gaza Strip and will start operations in early May, the statement read. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has allocated 9.7 million pounds sterling ($12.3 million) for the humanitarian deliveries to the conflict-torn enclave, the statement said.

Tajikistan Citizens won’t be able to enter Turkey without visa
Citizens of Tajikistan will no longer be able to enter Turkey without a visa, according to a relevant decree published in Turkish official journal Resmi Gazete. "It has been decided to cancel the visa-free regime for citizens of Tajikistan entering Turkey using ordinary passports," the decree signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. The reasons for the decision were not specified, but all the four main suspects in the case of the March 22 terrorist attack on a concert venue near Moscow are citizens of Tajikistan. Two of them visited Turkey before the attack, with one of them posting photos on social media from Istanbul, including a photo near the Fatih mosque.

US imports of Russian fertilizers amounted to $158.5 million in February, which is the highest volume since June 2023, when the purchases totaled $158.7 million, the US statistics bureau showed on Saturday (6 April). Russian forces overnight attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles, killing at least six people and wounding 11 more in Kharkiv, Ukraine`s second largest city, officials said Saturday (6 April). Governor of the Kharkiv region Oleh Syniehubov said missile strikes on the city damaged residential buildings, a gas station, a kindergarten, a cafe, a shop and cars. Overall, Russia fired 32 Iranian-made Shahed drones and six missiles at Ukraine overnight, according to the air force commander. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down three cruise missiles and 28 drones, Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleshchuk said in a statement. “Russian killers continue to terrorize Ukrainians and attack Kharkiv and other peaceful cities,” he said.

Newly elected Board of Directors of BGMEA takes charge
The newly elected Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by its President S. M. Mannan (Kochi), took charge of the trade body on Saturday (6 April) for the term 2024-2026. The outgoing Board of Directors handed over the responsibility to the new Board at the 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at BGMEA Complex in Uttara. The audited accounts of BGMEA for the year 2022-2023 were adopted and the budget for the year 2023-2024 was approved in the AGM, said a press release.
