UK lawyers join calls for UK to suspend Israeli arms export licences
A letter signed by more than 600 lawyers on Thursday (4 April) placed more pressure on the UK government to suspend arms export licences to Israel after three Britons were killed in an Israeli strike. The three died in Gaza on Monday along with four others who had all been working for US-based food charity World Central Kitchen (WCK). Britain`s strategic licensing criteria states that weapons should not be exported when there is a "clear risk" they could be used in international humanitarian law violations.

US State Department official James DeHart told lawmakers that diplomats created Afghanistan evacuation plans from scratch after the collapse of the country’s government in Kabul in August 2021, according to a transcribed interview released Thursday (4 April). Russia discovered 222 oil, gas fields on its territory
Russia has discovered 222 hydrocarbon fields on its territory over the last five years, the deputy head of Rosnedra, the Russian Federal Agency on Mineral Resources, Orest Kasparov, said on Thursday (4 April). "Over the last five years, 222 fields have been discovered. Most of the fields are located in the Volga-Ural Petroleum and Gas Province," Kasparov said at the agency`s board meeting. Most of those oil fields have small reserves. In general, oil and gas production in Russia is compensated by increases in reserves, Kasparov added.

US, Finland to expand cooperation on countering ‘Foreign Disinformation’
The United States and Finland have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation on countering "foreign state information manipulation," the US Department of State said on Thursday (4 April). US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen signed the memorandum on the sidelines of a NATO meeting in Brussels. "Foreign state information manipulation, which includes disinformation and propaganda, is a transnational security threat that can create or exploit divisions within and among countries, imperil election integrity, and undermine public trust in government," the State Department said in a statement.
