Tawhid enters Test squad to replace injured Mushfiqur
Bangladesh has announced a change to their squad for the opening Test against Sri Lanka starting on Friday (22 March), with batsman Tawhid Hridoy receiving his first Test call-up as a replacement for the injured Mushfiqur Rahim, confimred the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Mushfiqur was ruled out of the two-match Test series after sustaining a thumb injury during the final ODI against Sri Lanka last Monday. The experienced wicketkeeper-batter’s absence creates an opportunity for the young Tawhid to make his Test debut.

4 suffer burn injuries as gas cylinder blasts in Malibagh
Four people were injured in a gas cylinder explosion following a fire at a restaurant in the capital`s Malibagh area on Wednesday (20 March) evening. The injured are Md Sabuj, 20, Md Maruf, 16, and Julhas, 18, Abdul Hannan, 40. They all are the staff of "Shahjalal Hotel and Restaurant". Towhid, a colleague who brought them to the hospital, said that in the evening they were selling iftar in front of the restaurant. Suddenly, a fire broke out following the leakage of the pipe of the gas cylinder that left three of them injured.

Shariah-based banks struggle in collecting deposits
Following various irregularities in Shariah-based banks, the growth of deposit has slowed down. However, loan disbursement has not witnessed a similar decline. As a result, a significant portion of deposits is being allocated to loans. Consequently, these banks are unable to meet the central bank`s deposit requirements, leading to fines that they are failing to settle. For several months, five Islamic banks faced significant deficits. Suddenly, these banks are now in surplus. However, these Shariah-based banks are encountering difficulties in increasing deposits, causing them to fall behind in collecting deposits.

Two killed in Israeli air strike in West Bank
Two Palestinians, who the Israeli military said posed a "threat" to its soldiers, were killed by an air strike in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Authority said early Thursday (20 March). Israel`s military said shortly after midnight that it was carrying out an operation in the Palestinian refugee camp of Nur Shams, which adjoins the town of Tulkarm in the northwest of the West Bank. "During the operation, an aircraft struck two terrorists who posed an immediate threat to the forces," the Israeli army said in a brief message.
