Man on tracks crushed under wheels of train in Feni

A 30-year-old died after being crushed under the wheels of a train on the Dhaka-Chattagram rail track in the Fazilpur area of Feni headquarters on Saturday (16 March) morning. The deceased was identified as Ekram Uddin, 30, son of Mansur Ahmad of Paschim Maijchara village under Sudharam police station of Noakhali district headquarters. He used to work as a chef in Jamea Rashidia Madrasa in Feni town. Jahangir Alam, inspector of Government Railway Police (GRP) in Feni, said the Chattogram-bound Meghna Express hit while the youth was walking on the rail track in the Fazilpur area in the morning, leaving him dead on the spot.

DNCC launches Gulshan lake cleaning

Roaming crocodiles seen in Shibsa river

Deep sea saltwater crocodiles are courting in the Sibsa river at Paikgacha in Khulna. For days, the crocodile has been climbing the outpost of the broken fence in the local Mannan Gazi river. 400mts of potatoes imported from India

A total of 400 metric tonnes of potatoes were imported from India within two days through Benapole, the country`s largest land port. Alongside rice, pulses, wheat, eggs, onions, and green chilies, the government has authorised the importation of potatoes. Aziz Khan, the Revenue Officer at the Customs Cargo Branch of Benapole Check post, confirmed the importation of 400 metric tons of potatoes in 16 trucks over two days via the Petrapole port in India.

Cease-fire talks with Israel and Hamas expected to restart

Stalled talks aimed at securing a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas are expected to restart in earnest in Qatar as soon as Sunday (17 March), according to Egyptian officials. The talks would mark the first time both Israeli officials and Hamas leaders joined the indirect negotiations since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Police arrest five dacoits in Ctg

Chattogram District Police, in a drive, arrested five alleged members of a dacoit gang in Wahedpur Rastarmatha area of Mirsari thana of the district last night. The arrested are Md Khokan, 28, Mostafa, 35, Suman Mia, 33, Rasel Hossain, 33, and Monsur Alam, 36. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the robbers when they were taking preparation to commit robbery targeting the vehicles and pedestrians on the Dhaka-Chattogram highways, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirsari Thana Shahidul Islam.

Gazipur gas cylinder blast: Death toll reaches 2

Another victim who sustained burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur on Wednesday succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital on Saturday (16 March) morning, raising the death toll to two. The victim was identified as Mansur Ali Akond, 45, a mason by profession of Saldah Uttarpara village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district. He was a resident of Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur district.

Jhenaidah-1 MP Abdul Hyee passes away

Abdul Hyee, Jhenaidah-1 constituency MP and president of the district Awami League, has died. He was 78. He breathed his last at 7:00 am (local time) on Saturday at the Bumrungrad Hospital in Thailand. His personal assistant Shahidul Islam confirmed his death from Thailand. Hyee, also a former state minister, left behind wife, one daughter, and two sons to mourn his death.
