FM urges all to behave responsibly over hijacked ship

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud on Saturday (16 March) urged all to behave in a responsible ways from their respective position that will help overcome the issue regarding rescue of both crew members and Bangladeshi ship MV Abdullah."The issue needs to be looked at carefully by all. Our main goal is to free the sailors and the ship. So if we all behave responsibly from our respective positions, then it will be easier to overcome the situation," he said.

India’s Citizenship Amendment Act is their internal matter: FM

Foreign Minister and Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Hasan Mahmud has said India`s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is their internal matter. "As Bangladesh is a neighboring country, we are keeping an eye on the matter," he said on Saturday (16 March). Hasan made the remarks when journalists wanted to know about Bangladesh`s position regarding the law during a view exchange meeting in the city. The Citizenship Amendment Act provides a fast track to naturalization for Hindus, Parsis, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, and Christians who fled to Hindu-majority India from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan before Dec. 31, 2014.

‘Will end life along with son if justice is not done’

Tahmina Shabnam, mother of Jagannath University student Fairuz Abantika who died by suicide on Friday night, has demanded justice for her daughter’s death. “My husband died a year ago. Last night my daughter Fairuz died. I can`t bear this grief. I have another son. If no action is taken against those responsible for my daughter`s death, I will end my life along with my son,” said the wailing mother at her home at Bagichagaon of Cumilla city on Saturday (16 March).

New York judge delays Trump’s March 25 hush money trial

The New York judge presiding over Donald Trump`s trial for allegedly covering up hush money payments linked to extramarital affairs ordered a delay on Friday(15 March) in proceedings that had been scheduled to get underway on March 25. As the price of maize in the international market has gone up, farmers are making windfalls by selling the produced maize. This year, in 6 upazilas of the district, 26 thousand 555 hectares of land has been set as a target, but with an increase, 28 thousand 323 hectares of land have been cultivated. Sources in the Nilphamari Agricultural Extension Department told The Daily Messenger that 1,768 hectares more than the target area has been cultivated.

RMG worker injured in Gazipur gas cylinder blast dies
