Govt sets Ramadan office timing from 9 am to 3:30 pm

The government has rearranged the office timing for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan from 9 am to 3:30 pm for all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions.The decision was taken on Wednesday (27 February) at the weekly cabinet meeting held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the Prime Minister`s Office. “During Ramadan, 9 am to 3:30 pm was fixed as the office timing from Sunday to Thursday. And there’ll be a 15-minute break from 1:15 to 1:30 pm for Zohr prayers,” cabinet secretary Md Mahbub Hossain said while briefing reporters at the secretariat.

PM unwraps two books containing her speeches

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the covers of two books, which are compilations of her speeches given in the United Nations (UN) and to the nation, in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (27 February). The books are "Sokoler Tore Sokole Amra" which contains 19 speeches of the Prime Minister given in the UN and their English translation, and "Ahoban", a collection of her important addresses to the nation from 2009 to 2023.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin today asked the Public Service Commission (PSC) to ensure transparency and accountability in every work. Mexico City flights canceled as volcano spews ash

US says won’t send troops to Ukraine after Macron comments

The White House said on Tuesday (27 February) that the United States would not send troops to fight in Ukraine after French President Emmanuel Macron refused to rule out the dispatch of Western forces. President Joe Biden "has been clear that the US will not send troops to fight in Ukraine," National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said in a statement. US announces $53 mln in new Palestinian aid, urges access

The United States on Tuesday (27 February) announced another $53 million in humanitarian assistance for Palestinians as the US aid chief pleaded for protection to relief workers in war-ravaged Gaza. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) said the aid would go through the World Food Program and non-governmental groups, as Israel and Western powers criticize the UN refugee agency in besieged Gaza. 31 dead in Mali after bus plunges off bridge

Thirty-one people were killed in Mali on Tuesday (27 February) and 10 others wounded when a bus travelling toward Burkina Faso fell off a bridge in the country`s southeast, the transport ministry said. The accident occurred at around 5:00 pm (1700 GMT) at a bridge crossing the Bagoe river, it added. "A bus... that was leaving Kenieba commune for Burkina Faso tipped off a bridge. The likely cause is the driver losing control of the vehicle," the ministry said in a statement.
