A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and its standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in a case filed over vandalizing the residence of the Chief Justice (CJ) during the grand rally of the party on October 28 last year.

330 BGP members to be handed over to Myanmar authorities Thursday: BGB

Three hundred thirty three members of Myanmar security forces and others, who have taken shelter in Bangladesh amid conflict between Myanmar military and armed rebel group there, will be sent back to their country by a ship on Thursday. Under the supervision of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Myanmar nationals, including members of Border Guard Police (BGP), will be handed over to the authorities of Myanmar at 8 am through Naval jetty ghat in Inani of Cox’s Bazar district, said Shariful Islam, public relations officer of BGB on Wednesday.

Govt plans to set up five burn hospitals in country

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen today said the government has a plan to establish five burn hospitals in the country as around seven lakh people each year suffer from burn related complications. "The government is trying to spread the burn treatment facilities across the country ...so, five burn hospitals will be set up at five divisional headquarters", said the minister while responding to a supplementary question raised by independent lawmaker Md Aolad Hossain of Dhaka-4 during question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

21 individuals get Ekushey Padak

A total of 21 individuals will get the country`s second-highest civilian award, the Ekushey Padak, this year in recognition of their contributions to various fields.The Cultural Affairs Ministry today announced the names in a circular signed by Deputy Secretary Irin Farzana. The release said this year two people got the award in the Language Movement category, one in making documentation on the Liberation War, 11 in Shilpakala (acting, music, recitation, arts and painting), two in social service, one in education and four in language and literature.
