SUBARNACHAR RAPE CASE 10 sentenced to death, six jailed for life for raping on election-day
A court in Noakhali has sentenced 10 individuals to death and six others to life imprisonment in connection with the rape of a housewife in Subarnachar upazila on the night of the 11th general election on December 30, 2018. Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 Judge Fatema Ferdous on Monday also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on each convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two years of imprisonment.

Fire in Old Dhaka shoe factory under control
A fire that broke out in a shoe factory on Abul Khairat Road in Old Dhaka on Monday (February 5) morning was brought under control after around half an hour. Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters media cell, said the blaze began in the shoe factory on the ground floor of a one-storey building on Abul Khairat Road in Mahuttulil area around 9:20 am.

Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited has closed down Khulna Printing and Packaging Limited, a listed company, due to its failure to repay a substantial bank loan amounting to Tk 67.50 crores. The bank has taken possession of the company`s locked-up factory, causing a halt in production.
