BD exports climb to record $5.72bn in January

Bangladesh`s total export value broke all previous records by reaching $5.72 billion in the first month (January) of the year. Exports grew 11.45% compared to the same period of last Fiscal Year 2023. The last single-month high was recorded in December of last fiscal year when exports reached $5.37 billion. In the July-January of the last fiscal year 2023, exports were $32.44 billion.

14 Myanmar border guards personnel take refuge in Bandarban

At least 14 personnel from Myanmar`s Border Guard Police (BGP) fled to Bangladesh and took refuge in a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) outpost in Tormu, Bandarban after being attacked by rebels on Sunday (4 February), BGB Headquarters said. The Commanding Officer of the Tumbru BGB camp Md Saiful Islam Chowdhury will give details about this in a press conference. The press conference will be held in the afternoon at Tumbru Primary School, BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam said.

Metro rail resumes after one hour suspension

Metro rail services from Uttara North to Motijheel resumed after being halted for around one hour due to a "technical glitch". Trains were seen running in both directions since around 4:00 pm. MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said the there were problems in the electricity supply, leading to the suspension. "The operation resumed after checking the entire line manually," he said. The suspension lasted for around 45 minutes, he said.

Petition filed in HC challenging Dr Yunus bail

A petition has been filed with the High Court (HC) challenging the bail granted to Dr Muhammad Yunus on 28 January by the Labour Appeal Tribunal. Khurshid Alam Khan, a lawyer for the Directorate of Factories, said he filed the petition on Sunday (4 February). He also submitted a petition to ensure that Dr Yunus cannot travel abroad without the court`s permission.
