Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday (16 January) said BNP did not participate in the January 7 election in fear of defeat and has been searching for dark ways to assume power being rejected by the people time and again. "They know they are boycotted by the people. That is why, they don`t want to take part in the election. So, they are searching for different ways to go to regain power by destroying the electoral process. They are now looking for the ways of darkness bypassing the path of light which is election," she said.

Govt will ensure uninterrupted gas supply by 2026 : Nasrul Hamid
The government will ensure uninterrupted gas supply in the country by 2026, said State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid. We want to dig 46 gas wells by 2025 to ensure gas supply, the state minister said while speaking to journalists at the secretariat on Tuesday (16 January). He said the shortage of gas supply in the country is a big challenge.

Foodpanda fined Tk10 lakh for violation of Competition Act
Online food delivery platform Foodpanda has been fined Tk10 lakh for abusing its dominant position in the market which violates the Competition Act 2012. The fine is imposed by Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC). The decision came following the commission’s final verdict over a complaint filed in December 2020 by MGH Restaurants Pvt Ltd against the food delivery platform.

Health minister orders to shut down unregistered hospitals
Health Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen ordered the authority concerned to shut unregistered private hospitals, diagnostic centers and clinics across the country. The minister said this while addressing a press briefing at the secretariate on Tuesday (January 16). Samanta Lal Sen has expressed grief over the death of five-year-old Ayaan, who passed away following full anesthesia during a circumcision procedure at United Medical College Hospital.

7 injured as microbus overturns on Bangabandhu tunnel
Seven people including a Navy official, who is in charge of the security of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tunnel, were injured when a speeding microbus lost control and hit a road divider before overturning on the approach road of the tunnel. The incident took place on the approach road at the Anwara end of the tunnel at 6:30am today (16 January). The injured are identified as security personnel and Navy member Gazi Mahbubur Rahman Roni, microbus driver Rubel, passengers Ali Mortuza, Rashedul Islam, Farhana, Munna and Kanti.

HC issues rule against illegal structures on highways
The High Court (HC) on Tuesday (16 January) issued a rule asking why the inaction of the authorities in removing local vehicles, haat-bazars and other illegal structures from the highways of the country to ensure the safe movement of citizens, will not be declared illegal. A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice M. Atabullah passed the order.
