PM asks ministers to work for essentials’ price control

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (13 January) asked the newly appointed ministers to take required measures for keeping essentials prices under control during upcoming Holy Ramadan. "Holy Ramadan is nearing, so take necessary steps as the prices of essentials could not go up during this month," she said. The prime minister said this while holding an informal meeting with the newly appointed ministers who came here with her to pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Karwan Bazar slum fire : Firefighters recover 2 burnt bodies

Firefighters recovered the burnt bodies of two people after a fire broke out at Mollabari slum in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar early on Saturday (13 January). The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. The fire broke out at the slum around 2:23 am and soon engulfed it, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters (media cell).

Colombia landslide kills 18, injured 30

A landslide in northwest Colombia killed at least 18 people and injured around 30 on Friday (12 January), local authorities said. The road linking the cities of Medellin and Quibdo was temporarily closed after being damaged by several landslides, an official from the governor`s office in Choco department told AFP. On the road, "many people" got out of their vehicles to "take shelter in a house" near the municipality of Carmen de Atrato, "but unfortunately a landslide came and buried them," the official said, reporting 18 deaths so far.
