Lowest temperature in the country today was recorded at 10.3°C, at Nikli in Kishoreganj, according to the Met Office. Fog halts Daulatdia-Paturia ferry services
Ferry services on Daulatdia-Paturia route, on the Padma River, remained suspended for six hours on Thursday (11 January) due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. Abdus Salam, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha point, said the ferry service was suspended at 3 am owing to poor visibility. Four ferries — Hamidur Rahman, Banalata, Bir Shreshtha Jahangir and Hasna Hena — remained stranded in the middle of the Padma River while ten ferries were anchored at the ferry ghats.

Couple dead in Natore road accident
A husband and wife couple, who were heading towards Naogaon to visit a relative, died when a human hauler hit them on Ishwardi-Lalpur road in Lalpur upazila of Natore on Thursday (11 January) morning. The deceased were identified as Chandu Molla, 62, and his wife Arobi Begum, 42, both residents of the area. The accident occurred in the morning when a human hauler hit the couple, who were standing by the road, as the driver lost control over the wheel.

Banks’ liquidity falls by Tk 69b in three months
The banking sector`s surplus liquidity in the initial quarter of the current fiscal year has decreased by approximately Tk 69 billion or 6900 crores. President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Wednesday (10 January) invited Awami League President Sheikh Hasina to form the new government as her party AL achieved a landslide majority in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election, held on January 7. During a meeting, the President, in line with the Constitution of Bangladesh, invited Sheikh Hasina, the current Prime Minister of the 11th Parliament, to form the cabinet as the leader of the majority of members in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad.
