The campaign for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad(JS) elections ended with violations of the code of conduct and violence. Now the wait is only two days. The much awaited polls on January 7. After receiving the symbols on December 18, the candidates officially started campaigning. And on the last day, Thursday, rival candidates conducted vigorous campaigning across the country. Clashes also occurred between the supporters of the candidates at different places on this day. So far three people have died in the election conflict.

Four polling centres set up in schools were set on fire in three constituencies of Rajshahi early Friday (5 January). Miscreants used petrol bombs to set the polling stations on fire. School furniture, including books and papers, were burnt in the fire. Two hand bombs were also found in front of a polling station. The Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) has formed a `central monitoring and co-ordination cell` to deal with any accident, including violence and fire ahead of the January 7 national election. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed some restrictions on vehicular movement with a view to holding the January 7 parliamentary election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
