BNP-Jamaat acting on directives from London : PM

JP to announce election manifesto Thursday

Jatiya Party (JP), which is participating in the upcoming 12th national election, will announce its election manifesto on Thursday. JP Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu will formally unveil the party manifesto from its Banani party office at 12pm Thursday. At the ceremony, top leaders of the party will attend, JP said in a media note on Wednesday (20 December). On December 17, Chunnu said his party will contest in 283 constituencies as part of their efforts to make the election more competitive and meaningful.

BNP leader dies at Naogaon hospital after falling sick in jail

A local leader of the BNP, who had been in jail since November 27 after arrest in an explosives case, died at Naogaon 250-bed hospital on Wednesday (20 December) morning. The deceased was identified as Matibul Islam, 60, organizing secretary of Najipur municipality unit BNP of Patnitala upazila of the district. Former general secretary of Patnitala upazila unit BNP Abdul Hamid said Matibul was arrested in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act on November 27 and since then he had been in jail.

Surge in illegal brick kilns causes environmental crisis

At least 41 brick kilns in Lama Upazila of Bandarban have commenced their brick-making activities without obtaining any necessary permissions, approvals, or clearances. The kiln owners have already cut mountains, collected soil, and stockpiled forest wood as fuel for their operations, further damaging the hills. Despite the nominal oversight by the Directorate of Administration and Environment in Bandarban, these kilns have initiated operations in violation of the Brick Making and Kiln Installation (Regulation) Act-2013.

Mother holding child to her chest burnt in sabotage

At least four people, including a child, were killed as arsonists set fire to the Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train in the capital`s Tejgaon Railway station area early Tuesday, just an hour before the start of a hartal called by the BNP and likeminded opposition parties. Three carriages of the train were set on fire around 5:04 am, Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell, confirmed.

‘People will give reply to BNP’s arson terrorism through votes’

Awami League nominated candidate for Dhaka-3 constituency Nasrul Hamid has alleged that BNP is carrying out arson attacks and killing people to thwart the 12th National Election. "BNP has lost the opportunity to measure their popularity by not coming to the election. In fact, they have withdrawn from the election because of their lack of public involvement. Now they are conspiring to thwart the election through terrorism," he said.
