Many Spanish entrepreneurs are keen to visit Bangladesh to make investments here in different sectors, said the country’s outgoing envoy on Wednesday (13 December). Francisco de Asis Benitez Salas said this during a farewell call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the latter’s official residence Ganabhaban, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told a media briefing.

Bus set on fire in Dhaka’s Shahbagh

A passenger bus of `Bangabandhu Airport Paribahan` was set on fire by unidentified miscreants in the capital`s Shahbagh intersection. A total of 631 polling stations out of 793 have been identified as vulnerable ahead of the next parliamentary election, slated for January7. Additional security measures will be ensured in those polling stations identified as vulnerable. According to the sources at District Police, there are 46 polling stations in Batiaghata upazila under Khulna-1 constituency and of these, 33 have been identified as vulnerable while 31 polling stations in Dacope upazila out of 49 have been identified as risky.

One dead, five injured as train derails in Gazipur

A man was dead and five people were injured as seven bogies of a train derailed at Bankharia near Gazipur Railway Station on Wednesday (13 December). The identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately. Hanif Ali, Joydebpur Railway Station Master, said seven bogies of Dhaka-bound ‘Mohonganj Express’ from Mymensingh veered off the tracks around 4:30 am, leaving one killed and five injured.

Election Commission declares 61 more candidates valid

The Election Commission on Tuesday (12 December) declared 61 more aspirants as valid contenders, hearing 98 appeals filed by aggrieved ones against the decisions of the returning officers over the nomination papers in the upcoming national election. With 61 new aspirants, a total of 168 hopefuls got back their candidacy in the first three days after the EC on Sunday (10 December) started hearing and disposing of the appeals submitted against the cancellation or acceptance of nomination papers by the returning officers (ROs).
