The BNP on Thursday (16 November) announced a 48-hour hartal across the country starting from Sunday to protest the schedule for the next national election announced by the Election Commission (EC). Party Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the announcement at a virtual press briefing on Wednesday evening.

Sagar-Runi murder case: Report submission deferred for 103rd time

A Dhaka court on Thursday (16 November) again fixed December 19 for submission of the probe report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi. With this, the deadline for submission of the probe report in the case was deferred for the 103rd time. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was supposed to submit the report today but as it failed to submit it Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin fixed the fresh date for submitting it.

229 BGB platoons deployed across the country

To maintain law and order, a total of 229 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country amid the ongoing blockade called by BNP, Jamaat and like-minded opposition parties. Thirty-two BGB platoons have been deployed around garment factories in Dhaka and adjacent areas while the rest 197 platoons were deployed across the country to ensure security during blockade, said Shariful Islam, public relations officer at BGB headquarters.
