Dollar exchange rate breaks all limits

The dollar`s exchange rate is surging like a runaway horse in the open market. Last Thursday, the market saw the price of the dollar surpassing Tk 126 per dollar, up from Tk 122 to Tk 123 just the previous Wednesday. The rapid increase in the dollar`s price in the open market began when it was announced that banks were purchasing dollars from foreign exchange houses at a rate exceeding Tk 122. Last week, it ranged from Tk 118 to Tk 120 per dollar. According to sources within the central bank, the dollar`s price has never seen such a significant increase before.

Netanyahu rules out ceasefire, says no plans to occupy Gaza

Israel`s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ruled out a ceasefire in Gaza on Thursday, saying the military was performing "exceptionally well," but insisted Israel does not plan to reoccupy the Palestinian territory. "A ceasefire with Hamas means surrender," he told Fox News, adding there was no "timetable" for the military offensive. "I think the Israeli army is performing exceptionally well," he added. "However long it takes, we`ll do it." Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas after the militant group poured across the border from Gaza on October 7, killing 1,400 people, mostly civilians and taking around 240 people hostage, according to Israel.

Fire breaks out at ward councillor’s office in Dhaka’s Mirpur

A fire broke out at ward-9 councillor`s office in Dhaka`s Mirpur on Friday morning. The incident was reported at 6:10 am, said Talha Bin Zasim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence`s (media cell). Upon receiving information, two firefighting units from Kalyanpur Fire Station rushed to the spot around 6:25 am and doused the fire by 7:00 am, said the fire service official.

Dengue death toll rises to 1449 with 17 more dead in 24 Hrs

17 more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Thursday (9 November) morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 1449 this year. During the period, 1734 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the DGHS.
