BNP’s ‘oust-govt’ movement bound to fail : PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (28 October) categorically said that BNP will gain nothing by threatening to oust her government through movements. “Today, BNP wants to oust the government. They are giving various types of threats to launch movements. Let me make it clear that Awami League has attained for Bangladesh the developing nation status through coming in power with people’s votes. No threat will work,” she said.

AL declares peace rallies across country tomorrow

“Tomorrow, party leaders of the cities, districts, upazilas all over Bangladesh will organise peace rallies," Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Saturday (28 October). Quader announced while addressing a peace rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. He was attending the event as the chief guest.

Policeman dead during law enforcers’ clash with BNP

A police officer was killed during a clash with BNP activists at the Dainik Bangla crossing, police reported. However, the name and rank of the deceased are yet to be known immediately, said Bachhu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost. The policeman was declared dead by the doctors at DMCH on 4:15pm after bystanders brought him to the hospital with a head injury, he added.

BNP calls countrywide hartal on Sunday

BNP has announced a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the capital cityto protest "police attacks" on their leaders and activists and their grand rally at Nayapaltan on Saturday (28 October). BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the hartal before leaving the rally stage amid clashes between law enforcers and BNP leaders, activists. He said hartal will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm on Sunday (29 October).

Police, BNP men clash in Dhaka’s Kakrail area, police box set on fire

A chase and counter-chase between police and BNP leaders, activists occurred in Dhaka`s Kakrail area today, creating panic among people. Witnesses said leaders and activists of BNP brought out a procession in the Kakrail area and started going towards InterContinental hotel around 1 pm. At one stage, police obstructed them, and BNP leaders, activists started throwing brick chips at the law enforcers. Later, police fired rubber bullets, used sound grenades and tear gas shells to disperse them.

10 more deaths from dengue, death toll rises to 1,327

Ten more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Saturday (28 October) morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 1,327 this year. During the period, 1,800 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the DGHS. Of the new patients, 407 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside the capital--indicating a worsening situation across the country, DGHS said.

Therefore, the poverty rate of lower-class people has reduced significantly. The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is already uniquely important to Bangladesh because of its incredible success in poverty eradication over the past 14 years.
