BNP`s associate bodies Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Swechchasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal have reached Akhaura as part of their long march towards Agartala, India, protesting the attack on Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, disrespect to the national flag, and alleged attempts to provoke communal unrest. The long march started at 9am today from in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan in the capital. Prior to this, a short rally was held where BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi spoke as the chief guest.

Palestinian medical officials say an Israeli strike on a home where displaced people were sheltering in the northern Gaza Strip has killed at least 19 people. That`s according to the Kamal Adwan Hospital, which received the casualties on Wednesday after the overnight strike in the town of Beit Lahiya. Hospital records show that a family of eight were among those killed, including four children, their parents and two grandparents.

The United States has called on Bangladesh and India to resolve their differences peacefully, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said today (11 December). The statement came in response to a question from reporters about Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri recent visit to Bangladesh in the wake of the attack on the Bangladeshi diplomatic mission in India.

Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina`s trial will be carried out in the country in her absence if India fails to comply with an extradition request, Special Adviser to the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Toby Cadman said today (11 December). "I don`t know what India will do about Sheikh Hasina`s return to Bangladesh. But if India does not have her return here, her trial will continue in her absence," he said in response to reporters after a meeting of the tribunal`s prosecution team and probe agency this morning regarding the July-August mass killings.

A thick security blanket has been spread across the Akhaura Land Port and surrounding areas centring the long march programme called by the three associate bodies of the BNP. The programme was announced in response to the attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, India. Leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal began the march which left from Nayapaltan in Dhaka at 9am today.
