JKG Healthcare scam: ACC files case against Dr Sabrina, 6 others
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against seven people, including former registrar of the National Heart Institute and JKG Healthcare Chairperson Dr Sabrina Sharmin Hussain alias Sabrina Arif Chowdhury, for their involvement in the JKG Healthcare scam where they issued fake Covid-19 test reports. The others accused in the case include Sabrina`s husband JKG Healthcare Managing Director Ariful Chowdhury and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad.

Chinese Primer announces USD 1 billion for Bangladesh
Chinese Primer Li Qiang announced to provide one billion dollars for Bangladesh as economic assistance. Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said this during a media briefing adding that the Chinese Premier also said they give utmost importance to the relationship with Bangladesh. He said the Chinese Premier also expressed his desire to take the relations between Bangladesh and China to a new level. In a cordial environment there was a fruitful discussion between Bangladesh and China regarding all issues, said the Foreign Minister.

Quota protest: Dhaka’s rail link with parts of country suspended
Train communications between Dhaka and other parts of the country have been suspended as quota protestors put up barricades on Karwan Bazar level crossing and Mohakhali level crossing in the capital, causing immense suffering to commuters. Protesting students from different universities blocked the level crossings by placing logs around 11 am as part of the countrywide ‘Bangla Blockade’ programme protesting reinstatement of quota in public service.

Bangladesh and China on Tuesday (10 July) signed 21 instruments including three renewed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and made announcement of 7 more projects to elevate "comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership" from "strategic partnership" between the two countries. The instruments were inked in the presence of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Chinese counterpart Li Qiang after the delegation-level talks between the two countries at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing.

Around 600,000 people left without power in Russia due to heat
Power supply was disrupted in southern Russia due to abnormal heat wave, leaving around 600,000 people without electricity, the Russian Energy Ministry said. "Abnormally high outdoor temperatures were the cause for mass disruption of power supply in an array of Russia`s regions. According to operational data, more than 324,000 people in the Rostov Region are without electricity, 181,000 in the Krasnodar Territory and Adygea Republic, 94,300 in the Astrakhan Region," the ministry said on Telegram.

8 missing after boat sinks in Myanmar commercial hub
Eight people were missing after a boat sunk on a river in Myanmar`s commercial hub Yangon, the local fire department said on Wednesday (10 July). The boat sank after an "accident" at around 8:10 am local time (0145 GMT) in the Yangon river, it said on its Facebook page. It did not give details on what had occurred or whether any other vessels were involved. Local media reported the boat had collided with another vessel.
