Floods in northern Myanmar have trapped thousands of people in their homes and cut electricity and phone lines, residents and local media said Tuesday, with the state weather office warning of more heavy rain. N. Korea Launches two ballistic missiles, one fails
North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles but one launch failed, South Korea`s military said on Monday (1 July), a day after Pyongyang warned of "fatal consequences" following major joint exercises in the South. South Korea`s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the military had detected two launches, the first at 5:05 am (2005 GMT) and the second around 10 minutes later. The short-range ballistic missile launched at around 05:05 flew approximately 600 km (372 miles), and the second one travelled 120 km.

Incessant rains in Sylhet and onrush of water from the upstream have raised fears of flooding yet again. According to the Water Development Board (WDB), the water levels of Surma, Kushiyara, Sari, Gowain, and Dauki have been steadily rising since Sunday (30 June), evening. At the Kanaighat point, the Surma River`s water surged to 30 cm above the danger level by 9 am today, marking a significant rise compared to its levels just a day prior.
