Jahangirnagar students marched a rally for govt job quota reform on Monday (01 July), through the university and ended at the Dhaka-Aricha highway, while they blocked the road for 10 minutes from 11:57am to 12:07pm, causing significant traffic congestion. The rally began at 11:30am at the university`s Shaheed Minar, where students gathered to voice their demands.

Brother testifies in case over in ASP Anisul murder
Rezaul Karim, brother of late Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim, on Monday (1 July) submitted his deposition in the case filed over the murder of the senior cop. The brother of the victim testified at the court of Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam. He was later cross-examined by the defence. At the end of today`s proceedings, the court adjourned the hearing till September 10.

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive on submission of wealth statements by government officials and publishing them on the designated website. Supreme Court lawyer Subir Nandi Das filed the writ petition with the wing concerned of the High Court on Sunday (1 July). Secretaries to Establishment Ministry, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chairman, Bangladesh Bank governor and six others concerned were made respondents in the writ.

Israel released 55 Palestinians, including hospital director
A Palestinian health official says Israel released 55 Palestinians on Monday (01 July) whom it had detained from Gaza, including the director of the territory’s main hospital. Mohammed Abu Selmia was detained in November when Israeli forces raided Shifa Hospital. In video comments aired by Palestinian media following his release, Abu Selmia accused Israeli authorities of subjecting Palestinian detainees to "daily physical and psychological humiliation.” Israeli authorities have denied such allegations.

Flashflood likely in low-lying areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj
The water level of Surma, Kushiyara, Old-Surma, Sarigowain rivesr in the North-eastern region may rise further and cause flash flood in the low-lying areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center(FFWC). 3 killed in light aircraft crash on motorway outside Paris
Three people were killed on Sunday (30 June) when their light aircraft crashed onto a motorway east of Paris, the police and gendarmerie said. No car was hit in the crash of the plane onto the A4 motorway in Noisiel east of Paris which appeared to have been caused by the aircraft hitting an electric power cable, said a police source, asking not to be named, adding that the road had been blocked in both directions.

5 dead, 38 injured in Philippines firecracker depot blast
Five people, including a four-year-old child, were killed in a massive explosion at a pyrotechnics warehouse in the southern Philippines, emergency services said Sunday (30 June). The Saturday afternoon blast at the Zamboanga City site tore a large hole in the ground, sent debris careening into nearby buildings and houses and ignited a blaze, fire investigator Luigi Chan told AFP. Four warehouse workers and the four-year-old son of one of the staffers were killed, Chan said.
