Energy-efficient carbon fiber metro train unveiled in China
China has manufactured a carbon fiber metro train, which is significantly lighter and more energy-efficient than traditional trains, according to its developer, CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. The train, dubbed CETROVO 1.0, was unveiled in Qingdao, east China`s Shandong Province. It features a carbon fiber composite body and frame, which reduces the weight of the car body and bogie frame by 25 percent and 50 percent, respectively, making the overall vehicle weight 11 percent lighter compared with conventional trains.

At least 30 people died in protests in Kenya this week sparked by a government drive to substantially raise taxes in the East African country, Human Rights Watch monitor said Saturday (29 June). "Kenyan security forces shot directly into crowds of protesters on (Tuesday) June 25, 2024, including protesters who were fleeing," it said in a statement. "Shooting directly into crowds without justification, including as protesters try to flee, is completely unacceptable under Kenyan and international law," said Otsieno Namwaya, associate Africa director at Human Rights Watch.

Madrasha student drowns in Turag River
A 13-year-old madrasha student drowned in the Turag Riverin Rupnagar area of the capital on Friday (28 June) evening.
