New office timing from 9 am to 5pm after Eid-ul Azha
The government on Monday rearranged the office-timing from 9am to 5pm for government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions of the country, which will be effective after the upcoming Eid-ul Azha. The decision for the new office hours was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in the city.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecast rain or thundershowers in seven divisions including Dhaka in 24 hours commencing 9 am on Monday. “Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” said a regular bulletin of Met office.

Tk 250cr in gold, jewellery smuggled daily in BD: Bajus
Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (Bajus) has raised alarm over the rampant smuggling of gold and diamonds into the country, revealing that an average of Tk 250 crore worth of these precious items are illegally entering Bangladesh daily. In a pre-budget press conference held at the Bajus office in Dhaka’s Bashundhara City Shopping Complex Bajus officials called for stronger policy support and government intervention to combat the illegal trade. The association emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to stop smuggling activities.

Worker dies from electrocution in Dhaka’s Demra
A worker died from electrocution in an under-construction building at Demra staff quarter in the capital on Sunday (2 June) afternoon. A firefighter dies and a train derails in Germany
Flooding, high river levels and heavy rain led to the death of a firefighter and disrupted train travel in southern Germany on Sunday (2 June). The firefighter`s body was recovered after an inflatable watercraft carrying four firefighters capsized as they navigated floodwaters to bring residents to safety in the town of Pfaffenhofen, on the Ilm River in the southern Bavaria region, the dpa news agency reported. A long-distance train derailed after the ground under a section of track collapsed near the town of Schwaebisch Gmund some 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Stuttgart late Saturday. The 185 passengers were uninjured.
