Drivers stage demonstration for day 2 against ban on battery-run three-wheelers in Dhaka’s Rampura and Demra Staff Quarter areas for the second consecutive day on Sunday (19 May), demanding withdrawal of a ban on the movement of the vehicle in the capital. Vehicular movement remained suspended for around one hour in the areas, causing immense suffering to commuters. Bangladesh and China are working on a solar power project on the banks of the Jamuna River in Sirajganj to reduce cost from renewable energy. The first power plant of this project in Sirajganj has almost been completed. The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) have arrested four members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) after conducting a raid in Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of on sunday (19 May). The parliamentary standing committee on shipping ministry on Sunday (19 May) recommended taking appropriate measures to increase road and rail connectivity with the Payra sea port to carry forward activities of the port, located in the southern part of the country. It also recommended taking the entire responsibility of running the Kamalapur ICD (Inland Container Depot) terminal under shipping ministry describing it as the integral part of the port. It observed that all ports will be the stockholders of ICD.

The High Court on Sunday (19 May) ordered to maintain a status quo on felling of trees on Jashore-Narail highway during the implementation of a six-lane project. The HC bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar passed the order after hearing a writ petition. The government`s debt is projected to gradually increase over the next two fiscal years, following the trend of the previous two years. The projected debt will stand at 37.6 percent and 38.5 percent of the GDP in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 fiscal years, respectively, according to an official document of the Ministry of Finance. The debt amount is estimated at Tk 21,180 billion for fiscal year 2024-25, while for 2025-26, it is set to rise to Tk 24,388 billion. The figures were Tk 18,329 billion (36.6 percent of GDP) and Tk 15,697 billion (35.1 percent of GDP) for 2023-24(ongoing) and 2022-23 fiscal years, respectively.

More than 160 tonnes of fuel were delivered to the Gaza Strip via the US-installed temporary pier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. On Thursday (16 May), the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the US military installed a temporary pier in the Gaza Strip to deliver humanitarian aid to the enclave. A helicopter in the convoy of Iran`s President Ebrahim Raisi was involved in "an accident" on Sunday (19 May), state media reported, without specifying if the president was on board. "Some unconfirmed reports say that the helicopter carrying President Raisi has had an accident in East Azerbaijan province," state television said adding that rescue efforts were underway.
