The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said Tuesday (30 April) that at least 34,535 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory during almost seven months of war between Israel and Hamas. The tally includes at least 47 deaths in the past 24 hours, a ministry statement said, adding that 77,704 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip since the war broke out when Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 7.

90 lawyers ask Biden to stop military aid to Israel
A group of more than 90 lawyers, including at least 20 from the presidential administration, is calling on US President Joe Biden to stop military aid to Israel because of its actions in the Gaza Strip, which they say contradict US and international humanitarian law. French economy beats growth forecast in first quarter

Tuesday (30 April) is the 10th death anniversary of the heroic freedom fighter Nasim Osman, a member of the traditional Osman family of Narayanganj. He was elected Member of Parliament from Narayanganj-5 Constituency in 1986, 1988, 2008 and 2014. Late Nasim Osman, a late language soldier and independence medalist of the traditional political family of Narayanganj, a brave freedom fighter, one of the organizations of the liberation war, former MLA, a close companion of Bangabandhu and one of the founding figures of Bangladesh Awami League, the elder son of the late AKM Shamsujjoha and the late language soldier Nagina Joha and currently Narayanganj- Elder brother of AKM Salim Osman and AKM Shamim Osman, Member of Parliament for Constituency 5 and 4. He was also a presidium member of Jatiya Party and is the elected Member of Parliament for the longest term from Narayanganj-5 Constituency.

Chuadanga’s temperature hits 43 degree Celsius
Amid the intense heat in different parts of the country, Chuadanga experienced 43.0 degrees Celsius temperature on Monday (29 April), the highest in 10 years. Jaminur Rahman, in-charge of Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre, said they have recorded 43 degrees Celsius temperature at 3 pm in Chuadanga and it may rise after evening. This is the highest temperature recorded in the past 10 years in the district, he said. On May 21, 2014, Chuadanga recorded 43.2degrees Celsius temperature. Chuadanga has been experiencing extreme heat weather since middle of the month of April, hampering the regular activities of people.

5 dead in bus-ambulance collision in Cox’s Bazar
Five people died and 10 others sustained injuries when an ambulance collided head-on with a Shyamoli Paribahan bus on the Cox`s Bazar-Chattogram highway near Eidgaon in Khodaibari around noon on Monday (29 April). Three US law enforcement officials killed in shootout
Three US law enforcement officials were killed and five others injured in a shootout Monday as they carried out a warrant at a home in in the southern state of North Carolina, officials said. At least one suspect was later found dead on the property after officers returned fire, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) wrote on social media, following a standoff that lasted around three hours. The Department of Justice confirmed that a deputy US marshal and two task force officers were killed in the incident.

HC orders keeping all schools, colleges shut till Thursday
The High Court on Monday (29 April) asked the authorities concerned to keep primary and secondary level educational institutions except those with air conditioner closed until Thursday due to extreme heat. The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the suo moto order. The educational institutions which have air conditioners, universities, A and O level exams and public examinations will remain out of the purview of the order. Md Manir Uddin, a Supreme Court lawyer, drew the attention of the court about the news of death and sickness of people including teachers and students after the reopening of the educational institutions amid the heat alert across the country.

Kenya dam bursts, killing at least 42: governor
At least 42 people were killed when a dam burst in a town north of the Kenyan capital Nairobi, the local governor told the media on Monday (29 April). The East African country is battling heavy rains and floods. "Forty-two dead, it`s a conservative estimate. There are still more in the mud.
