State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said this at a press conference on the reassessment of price of edible oil at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.

Deaths on highways continue unabated
The country’s highways have become death traps, with the procession of death due to road accidents showing no signs of stopping; rather, it is increasing day by day. The death toll rises particularly during the Eid holidays compared to other times of the year. In the last two days alone, 40 people have died in road accidents across different parts of the country. According to Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, 565 people were killed and 1228 injured in 552 road accidents in March. During this period, 203 people lost their lives and 166 sustained injuries in 181 motorcycle accidents, which accounts for 32.78 percent of the total accidents, 35.92 percent of the fatalities, and 13.51 percent of the injuries.

Taposh said Panthakunja is a very important park in this area. People are experiencing blistering heat as a severe heat wave is sweeping the district. Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre recorded 40.7 Degrees Celsius in Meherpur at 3 pm on Wednesday, said Jaminur Rahman, in-charge of the Observatory Centre. Nestlé, the world’s largest consumer goods company, adds sugar and honey to infant milk and cereal products sold in many poorer countries, contrary to international guidelines aimed at preventing obesity and chronic diseases, a report has found. Campaigners from Public Eye, a Swiss investigative organization, sent samples of the Swiss multinational’s baby-food products sold in Asia, Africa and Latin America to a Belgian laboratory for testing. The results, and examination of product packaging, revealed added sugar in the form of sucrose or honey in samples of Nido, a follow-up milk formula brand intended for use for infants aged one and above, and Cerelac, a cereal aimed at children aged between six months and two years.

Death toll from 4 days of rains rises to 63 in Pakistan
Lightning and heavy rains led to 14 deaths in Pakistan, officials said Wednesday, bringing the death toll from four days of extreme weather to at least 63, as the heaviest downpour in decades flooded villages on the country`s southwestern coast. Flash floods have also killed dozens of people in neighboring Afghanistan. In Pakistan, most of the deaths were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in the country`s northwest. Collapsing buildings have killed 32 people, including 15 children and five women, said Khursheed Anwar, a spokesman for the Disaster Management Authority. Dozens more were also injured in the region, where 1,370 houses were damaged, Anwar said.
