20th death anniversary of Dr. Golam Mohiuddin

On April 18, 2004, Dr. Golam Mohiuddin passed away. Twenty years have passed in silence. He was associated with many organizations other than teaching. I would first like to recall his contribution against gas exports during the gas crisis of 2004. He was the member-secretary of the ‘National Committee for Protection of Oil-Gas-Power Ports in National Interest” till his death. When Finance Minister Saifur Rahman himself said, ‘What is the benefit of gas rotting under the soil’, he wrote about ‘Gas Export Production Sharing Contracts and Globalisation for Public Awareness

BCB extends Mustafizur’s IPL NOC by just one day

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted a one-day extension to Mustafizur Rahman`s No Objection Certificate (NOC), allowing him to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to a BCB source. Mustafizur was previously scheduled to leave the IPL on April 30th but can now play for his team, the Chennai Super Kings, on May 1st. He will return to Bangladesh on May 2nd. Bangladesh will face Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series starting May 3rd in Chattogram. Mustafizur is expected to join the national team but may miss the first match. The last two matches of this series will take place in Dhaka.

Police detained two drug peddlers with 50 bottles of phensedyl from Ramkhana Union of Nageshwari Upazila early Monday (15 April). Padma Bridge toll collection crosses Tk 14.6 crore in 5 days

During the Eid holiday from April 9 to 13, a total of 146,553 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge in 5 days. A total of Tk 146,052,700 in toll was collected at the Mawa and Zajira ends of the bridge.According to the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, 30,330 vehicles crossed the bridge from the Mawa end on April 9, 17,505 on April 10, 11,194 on April 11, 15,883 on April 12, and 12,896 on April 13. EU oil import dependency hits record high of 97.7%

The European Union`s dependency on imports of oil and petroleum products in 2022 rose to a new record of 97.7% after declining to 91.6% the year prior, Eurostat said on Monday (15 April). "The EU’s import dependency for the entire family of crude oil and petroleum products surged to a new record high of 97.7% in 2022," Eurostat said in a statement.

Armenia denies entering talks with UK on migrant deportation scheme

Armenia rejected reports on Monday (15 April) that it had held negotiations with the United Kingdom about deporting asylum seekers to the South Caucasus nation. China launches new remote sensing satellite into orbit

China launched on Monday a new remote sensing satellite into space using the Long March-2D carrier rocket, Chinese media reported. The rocket was launched at 12:12 p.m. Beijing time (04:12 GMT) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, successfully putting the Gaojing-3 01 satellite into orbit, Xinhua news agency reported.
