In a tradition supposedly upheld since 1928, Muslims across 40 villages in Chandpur district initiated their Ramadan fasting on Monday (11 March), aligning with the commencement of the holy month in Saudi Arabia. The local mosques witnessed Taraweeh prayers on Sunday evening, and villagers had sehri before dawn, marking the beginning of the fasting period. This practice, rooted in the rituals of Sadra Darbar Sharif in Sadra village, Hajiganj upazila, adheres to the moon sighting in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, shared Pirjada Dr. Bakibillah Mishkat Chowdhury.

Five of six cross-country skiers who went missing in the Swiss Alps over the weekend have been found dead, police in the canton of Valais said Monday (11 March), with the search still on for the last person. The group of skiers, who ranged in age from 21 to 58, had left Zermatt Saturday morning with the goal of reaching the town of Arolla later that day. Health ministry in Hamas says war death toll at 31,112
The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said Monday (11 March) that at least 31,112 people have been killed in the territory during more than five months of war between Israel and Palestinian militants.The latest toll includes 67 fatalities over the past 24 hours, a ministry statement said, adding that 72,760 people have been wounded in Gaza since the war began on October 7 when Hamas militants attacked Israel.
