The day will also be observed around the world as the UNESCO recognised the Ekushey February as the International Mother Language Day on November 17, 1999.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed former national selection committee member Habibul Bashar Sumon as the new head of Women`s wing. The former national skipper Bashar took the role following a meeting on Tuesday (20 February) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, where women`s wing committee chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel was present.
